“Festival of Trees Coming to The Battlefords”

North Battleford, SK - Battlefords Union Hospital (BUH) Foundation is excited to present the 2021 Festival of Trees, “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas,” taking place in The Battlefords from Wednesday, Nov. 24th – Wednesday, Dec. 8th.  The Festival of Trees is a Christmas tradition within The Battlefords and is celebrating its 26th year of ushering in the Christmas season, while raising funds for healthcare.

The 2021 Festival of Trees will not be held in one location with a large gathering, but rather be meeting people in the community where they are.  The Board of Directors and Festival of Trees Committee is encouraging participants to gather with their own family and friends, join in the Festival of Trees fun and celebrate the season together.

“We are looking forward to hosting the 26th Festival of Trees in The Battlefords.  We have a lot of great events planned for the two weeks and have received wonderful sponsorship and support from the community to help make it all possible,” shares JoAnne Iverson, BUH Foundation Board of Directors Festival of Trees Committee Member. “We invite everyone to join us and be a part of this fun event, whether it’s by bidding on the decorated items and silent auction packages or joining in the events, there is something for everyone.”

The beautifully decorated trees, wreaths and accent pieces will be on display at Frontier Centre and Territorial Place Mall.  These items will be available for online silent auction throughout the duration of the Festival.  Family Day “Rudolph Fun Packs” are back for a second year and will be available for children at no cost.  The Fun Packs are filled with Christmas activities and treats for children ages 4 – 12 years.  Families may register Wednesday, Nov 24th and Wednesday, Dec 1st for pick up on the following Mondays.

Christmas High Tea will take place on Friday, Dec 3rd.  This has become a wonderful tradition at Festival of Trees and the delicious scones, handmade clotted cream, jams, finger sandwiches, petite fours and tea will be boxed for enjoyment within your own groups.  Each box is prepared for two and cost is $50.

The “Gala Getaway” is a take-off of the traditional gala evening and will be held on Saturday, Dec 4th.  This event is in partnership with Cooking with Co-op, which is an interactive virtual event where you cook, eat and drink along with host, Tracy Voigt.  “Gala Getaway” & Cooking with Co-op ~ Festival of Trees Edition will provide a fun, light-hearted, tropical vacation themed evening sure to please.  Tickets to “Gala Getaway” cost $220 for two and will provide the cooking kit and everything needed for the evening’s meal, along with a tropical themed vacation package and a chance to win a real life getaway.

New for 2021 is the McDonald’s Festival Breakfast Fundraiser on Saturday, Nov 27th.  Stop by either McDonald’s locations in North Battleford for a breakfast sandwich and more.  $1.00 from the sale of every Egg McMuffin, Bacon & Egg McMuffin and Sausage & Egg McMuffin sold between 7am – 11am will be donated to Festival of Trees and enriched healthcare.

New for 2021 is also The Cup Cake & Bakery who will be baking a Festival of Trees cupcake for Wednesday – Friday, Nov 24th – 26th.  These cupcakes can be purchased individually, or order a dozen for your family and the office.  A portion of the sales will be donated to Festival of Trees and enriched healthcare.

“We are grateful to all of our sponsors, donors and volunteers that are helping to bring Festival of Trees 2021 to The Battlefords,” shares Shauna McGifford, BUH Foundation Fund Development Officer. “BUH Foundation receives such wonderful support from organizations, businesses and community members.  We can’t say enough how much we appreciate their commitment to making this event happen and to supporting enriched healthcare in The Battlefords.”

There are many schools and children’s groups participating in the “Wonders of Christmas” Trees by Children.  The children are making Christmas decorations that will be delivered to a Senior Home within The Battlefords to decorate a tree for the residents and provide a little bit of Festival of Trees to enjoy this Christmas season in their own homes.

Throughout Festival of Trees there are 50/50 tickets to purchase (1 for $10 or 3 for $25) and raffle tickets available (1 for $10 or 3 for $25), as well as “Christmas is Coming” silent auction providing many great prize packages to be won.

Proceeds from the 2021 Festival of Trees will be directed towards Women’s Health & Birthing Centre to purchase a Biliblanket that allows newborns to be wrapped and held during treatment for jaundice.  It will also purchase new technology in a Bilirubin Jaundice Meter that eliminates the need for heel pricks in newborns, as well as waiting for lab results.  The Meter can quickly and efficiently monitor bilirubin levels and potential for jaundice, similar to using a thermometer.
