BUH Foundation Celebrates new Digital Fluoroscopy Unit

November 12th 2015

North Battleford, SK – Battlefords Union Hospital (BUH) Foundation is celebrating the new digital fluoroscopy unit at BUH’s Medical Imaging department and was a part of the grand opening event on Thursday, November 12th, 2:30pm.  The new fluoroscopy unit replaces the previous unit that had reached its end of life and was no longer functioning.  BUH Foundation contributed almost $300,000 to this important purchase and is excited to see it in place and enriching patient care.

Roger Anderson, BUH Foundation Chairperson stated, “We were very pleased to be a part of such a large and important purchase for our hospital.  We have a wonderful community that supports our fundraising efforts and they were an important part of seeing this happen.”

A full year of BUH Foundation special event proceeds were directed towards the new fluoroscopy unit.  This included Monthly Lottery, Ladies’ Night, Festival of Trees, $100,000 Cash Lottery and the Wayne Pruden Memorial Golf Tournament.  Support of these events is overwhelming as the community steps up and makes a difference for healthcare.  It is through such strong support that BUH Foundation was able to assist in the purchase.

Claudette McGuire, BUH Foundation Executive Director shares, “When we heard of the need for a new fluoroscopy unit we knew we wanted to help out.  It was going to take some funding but it would be worth it.  We didn’t want members of our community to have to delay procedures or travel out of the city.  It is very exciting to see the new equipment in place.”

The new digital fluoroscopy unit will provide state of the art technology to patients within The Battlefords.  The image quality is the highest available and aids in fast, efficient diagnosis for patients and the c-arm allows exams to be performed in the ideal position with limited movement for the patient.  The focus is always on putting the patient, our family and friends, first and ensuring safe, quality healthcare is available where we live.

Cheryl Mitchell, Regional Director of Medical Imaging Services explained, “We are very grateful for the support of the Foundation that helped make this purchase a reality.  We perform up to 600 specialty procedures with the fluoroscopy unit in a year and it was important that we have this service available again at BUH.”

A fluoroscopy unit allows for real time imaging of a patient allowing radiologists to observe organs and functional imaging of the body to provide accurate diagnosis and possible life-saving interventions.
